President Bill Clinton Opens GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, UAE- December 13, 2011: President Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States, today opened GEMS American Academy – Abu Dhabi, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and His Excellency Humaid Mohammed Al Khathami, UAE Minister of Education.

On the occasion, President Clinton said, “I often think that the education of even one child who otherwise would not have the opportunity to get a world class education, may be worth to the future of the world, more than all the endeavours that I have engaged in my life. I very much appreciate the commitment GEMS has, to try to provide that opportunity for ever larger numbers of children, here, and other places across the world.”

The ceremony was hosted by GEMS Education and attended by a number of dignitaries and other VIP guests. Sunny Varkey, Chairman of GEMS Education, said, “We are extremely honoured to have President Clinton and His Highness here to open GEMS American Academy in the UAE Capital. GEMS has been operating schools in Abu Dhabi for over twenty years and will continue its commitment of supporting the government’s education objectives in both the private and public sectors. Successful tutoring program in Connecticut

June 11, 2010 — NEW HAVEN, Conn. — This year, more than 300 eligible students in New Haven, Norwalk, Bridgeport and Stamford participated in a free after school tutoring program provided by Global Partnership Schools. The students’ efforts resulted in academic gains during the year—in one New Haven school, students gained at least 10 levels on the Diagnostic Reading Assessment (DRA)—which will be celebrated this weekend during a special day of fun for students and their families.

On Saturday, June 12, Global Partnership Schools will host a Family Fun Day Celebration to recognize the achievements of students participating in the program in New Haven. Students and their families will enjoy a range of fun and educational games, activities, an obstacle course, food, and exciting door prizes including four round trip, business class tickets for one lucky family, provided by AirTran Airways. The event will be held at Fair Haven School from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. (more…)

Turning Around Schools in Washington

Turnaround Provider in Washington State

March 23, 2010 — NEW YORK — Global Partnership Schools, partnering with CORE, has been named by the Washington Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) as one of only 11 educational service providers eligible to assist with school transformation and turnaround efforts throughout the state. As part of this select group, Global Partnership Schools has been certified by OSPI to have the capacity, experience, expertise, and ability to deliver positive outcomes in low-performing schools.

Assistance will be provided to as many as 47 eligible schools identified on the federal list of “persistently lowest achieving schools” as Tier I and Tier II during the 2009-2010 school year and in subsequent years for the period of the School Improvement Grant. According to OSPI, schools were identified using both academic performance of all students and improvement trends over the past three years. (more…)

Feb. 12, 2010 — PHOENIX — This week at the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) National Conference on Education in Phoenix, the nation’s superintendents have been issued a challenge to take back the reins of educational leadership and to work collectively to set an ambitious course for education reform.

This challenge comes from two nationally-acclaimed educators with proven records of success, Dr. Manny Rivera and Dr. Rudy Crew. Both former AASA National Superintendents of the Year, they serve as CEO and president, respectively, for Global Partnership Schools. Drs. Rivera and Crew discussed the topic of educational leadership during a thought-provoking session at the AASA Conference, in which they outlined a comprehensive approach for systemic change in schools.
